As summer approaches more and more people take up running. Sometimes I think yoga and running are opposites- as in yoga we aim to 'do no harm' yet with running so many people harm themselves.
It's not just busy executives that can't find time to get to class. I teach one to one yoga to retired people and busy mums in the comfort of their own home - at a time to suit them. Sometimes it is my existing students that attend my classes that want an extra boost for their practice. Sometimes I teach yoga to couples.
Most of us understand that the quality of our later life will depend on our health. So it is strange that we may have given our current health little thought. Some of us put our health on a 'to-do list' when actually it should be a daily priority. Exercise over 50 is an investment in your health for the rest of your life.
Some people are not sure about how much time should be left between eating and yoga class. Some students are coming to Yoga class having not eaten for a very long time.
A new year is a time to look back and reflect on our lives and ourselves. Unfortunately this reflection can often focus on the negative aspects rather than the positive. Instead of being a positive thing, obsessing over our new years resolution can lead to self- obsession.
Many people may be interested in starting Yoga in January but don't seem to know where to start. My first piece of advice is to choose a local class that you can easily get to.

"Mindfulness" seems to be a buzz word at the moment. It is supposed to be good for us to be more mindful. It is supposed to help with the stresses of day to day life. We are all supposed to be more mindful. But how can we do it?
